As Terence Crawford prepares for Errol Spence Jr in what will be the most significant fight of his career, he’s questioned whether or not resumes matter when the first bell sounds.
Both men will enter the ring undefeated. ‘Bud’ puts his WBO title on the line against Spence’s WBC, WBA and IBF to crown the first four-belt champion in the welterweight ranks on July 29 in Las Vegas.
After winning world honours at both lightweight and super-lightweight, this will be Crawford’s eighth fight at 147lbs, whilst Spence has campaigned in the division for all 28 of his contests.
As fans and pundits try to predict how the action might unfold, a lot of talk has fallen to records. Crawford though believes that’s irrelevant, and named Shawn Porter – a man both he and Spence have bested – as an example.
“I respect Errol Spence Jr as a fighter, but resume don’t mean anything in my eyes because, to be honest, Shawn Porter has a better resume than both of us. It really doesn’t matter.”

Porter is indeed known for avoiding the usual sticking points in fight talks – politics, purses, risk – in order to step in with anyone put in front of him.
His highlight wins include Danny Garcia – for which he became a two-time world champion – Yordenis Ugas, Andre Berto, Adrien Broner and Paulie Malignaggi.
‘Showtime’ came up short against Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Spence and Crawford – the only man to stop him in a 36 fight career. He would retire at the post-fight press conference.
Now a well-respected pundit, Porter has a unique insight into the upcoming undisputed fight. He’s one of only two men, alongside Brook, who has faced both in the ring.
Whilst he’s adamant that it’s a 50/50 fight, he has said that if he was forced to make a pick he would lean towards Crawford.
