Hackett, though, points to boxing’s long history of stars returning after lengthy layoffs and argues it is far too soon for anyone — Jaron “Boots” Ennis included — to write the retirement off as permanent.
“I’m not believing that Bud is retired. I don’t believe Bud is retired. People don’t retire in a year and be like, ‘I’m done for real.’ They come back.”

Hackett’s point matters because a Crawford return would instantly create huge-money options. It also keeps alive Crawford’s stance on a fight with Jaron Ennis, a bout fans have long coveted but which ‘Bud’ has so far left on the table.
For now, Crawford is adamant the gloves are hung up. But as Boxing News 24 reported, Hackett is convinced boredom — and the lure of one more payday — could yet tempt him back. “You think he really retired?” Hackett said. “I don’t think so.”
