Tony Bellew has cast his eye over the upcoming undisputed fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk and thinks one man ‘only has a puncher’s chance’.
The countdown is now on for the second time to the much anticipated and historic battle for all four major heavyweight world titles. It will be the first time such a contest has taken place since 1999 when Lennox Lewis had the honour of being the undisputed king.
The fight was scheduled for February 17 but Fury suffered a cut late in sparring that delayed it until May 18. Many people have questioned the cut and what impact the delay might have on Fury when he has previously pulled out of rematches.
Now, speaking to Matchroom Boxing, former Usyk opponent Bellew has given his view on how the fight goes in the same week that he talked about coming out of retirement.
“I don’t think anybody beats Oleksandr Usyk. I don’t think anybody beats him. I said it many many moons ago.”
Bellew was knocked out by Usyk in the 8th round of their undisputed cruiserweight contest in 2018 and thinks his former foe will be too much for the current Fury.
“The craziest part about it is I think when Fury was with his uncle I do think he beat him but his style changed and now he’s an aggressive counter puncher and that isn’t going to work against Usyk.
“I think now he has a puncher’s chance but he isn’t a big puncher to be honest I think he’s a brilliant fighter, take nothing away from him, what he’s done for the heavyweight division is amazing but I think Oleksandr Usyk is the best heavyweight in the world.”
