Tyson Fury might be the Lineal and WBC world heavyweight champion but Tony Bellew thinks there is one aspect of boxing that he is ‘horrendous’ at.
Fury has long reigned in the heavyweight division and has shown many different sides to his game in that time. He won his first world title by using footwork and boxing skills to keep out of trouble when facing Wladimir Klitschko in what is one of boxing’s best away wins.
When facing Deanery Wilder in a thrilling trilogy, he then opted to fight more on the front foot in two of the bouts, and in those two fights he battered Wilder into submission.
Since then he has shown hints of vulnerability against the likes of Otto Wallin who pushed him and over 12 rounds and inflicted a serious cut, and was put down by boxing novice Francis Ngannou back in October before rallying to a points win.
Former cruiserweight world champion Bellew spoke on another area of weakness in Fury’s game.
“On the technical side of things, Tyson Fury has always struggled with smaller movers and is horrendous when it comes to counterpunchers. If you go on the backfoot against Fury, he is lost.
“A complete boxing novice in Francis Ngannou when on the backfoot against Fury and caused him all kinds of problems. And I mean a raw, complete novice in Francis Ngannou.
“He gave him fits which is crazy to think a man with a boxing record of 0-0 went in there and pushed the heavyweight champion of the world to the absolute limit. Some people even think he won. You can’t really dispute that.”
