There has been an avalanche of opinion coming down on Dillian Whyte since his fight with Anthony Joshua was canceled due to adverse analytical findings in a random VADA test, and now an experienced British trainer says the news could end ‘The Body Snatcher’s career.
USA Ring Magazine 2015 World Trainer of the Year Joe Gallagher has trained several world champions in his time including Natasha Jonas, Liam Smith and Anthony Crolla.
Speaking to BBTV Boxing, he discusses the implications of Whyte testing positive for a third time after a ban in 2012 and then being cleared of a failed test in the run-up to fighting Oscar Rivas in 2019.
“It’s another black eye for boxing and I think to be fair that’s the end of Dillian Whyte’s career now.
Nobody will dare touch him, no promoter, no TV, it’s unfortunate his career has to end like that.”
He is then asked if he is mindful of who is around his own boxers in terms of nutritionists so as to protect what they ingest.
“100%. We’re very close, the people we bring on board to do the nutrient and the food are people that I trust to do the job really well.”
It seems like it will be a long road back for Whyte should he prove his innocence, as he has suggested, but he wouldn’t be the first fighter to get back in the ring after failing a drugs test.
In the meantime, Robert Helenius has been drafted in as the last minute replacement to take on Joshua this Saturday night. On news of the new opponent being announced DAZN decided to take the event off PPV and will now be part of a standard subscription.
