Turki Alalshikh, the Chair of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, has announced that he has plans for a ‘huge’ boxing event on UK shores at Wembley Stadium at the end of summer this year.
Alalshikh has very much transformed the boxing landscape in the last couple of years. His vast financial reveres have meant that Saudi Arabia has become the capital of the boxing world in a very short space of time.
The biggest fights in the last few years have all taken place there including Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou, and the huge Day of Reckoning Card that saw the likes of Joshua vs. Otto Wallin, and Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker.
Most recently Joshua returned to knock out Ngannou on March 8. Next up is the first undisputed fight in 25 years on May 18 when Fury and Usyk face-off, and then in summer is the much anticipated undisputed light heavyweight title fight which tops the 5 v 5 card.
In a new video on Queensbury Promotion’s YouTube, Alalshikh reveals he hopes to do something huge at England’s national stadium.
“We’re studying now with Eddie and Frank to do something huge in the third quarter in London as a commercial for Riyadh Season. We’re discussing this and think in a couple weeks we’ll reach a point.”
