Lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has sensationally called out WBC World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder following the American’s breakdown in talks to face WBA/WBO/IBF king Anthony Joshua.
Fury, who returned to action earlier this month against Sefer Seferi in Manchester, has thrown down the gauntlet for Wilder, who had been hoping to tackle on Fury’s compatriot Anthony Joshua in an undisputed title showdown.
“I’ll apologise on behalf of Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua for stringing you along.” said Fury via Instagram.
“You’re talking and looking at the real heavyweight champion from this country: me.”
“They [Joshua] won’t fight you. They’ve taken three months stringing the fans along with no intention of fighting.”
Despite boxing just four rounds in two-and-a-half years after dethroning long-time heavyweight ruler Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, Fury claimed that he would be prepared to face ‘The Bronze Bomber’ next – even calling for Wilder’s manager Al Haymon to send a contract for the bout.
“I’ll fight you in three seconds – never mind three minutes – get your boss Al Haymon to send me the contract, and I’ll show you how long it takes to sign it. Ten seconds. Done! Signed, sealed and delivered.” said Fury.
After lambasting Joshua and Hearn for “stringing along” both Wilder and Hearn, Fury finished the message by declaring his willingness to step in to face the American.
“If you want to fight the best this country has ever had: knock on my door and see if ‘The Gypsy King’ doesn’t answer!”
While a bout with Wilder would seem a stretch for Fury at this point of his return to action, his latest call out would suggest that he is looking at toppling the divisions marquee names sooner than expected.
Returning to the ring on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s clash with Luke Jackson on August 18th, Fury signed off with an ominous message for his would-be-rival.
“The ball’s in your court!” he finished.
The circus continues…
