This week, footage has emerged of Tyson Fury being escorted out of a Morecambe pub by bouncers and then falling face-first onto the pavement afterwards. Now, one of Britain’s top promoters has offered his thoughts on the clip, labelling the person who captured the footage as ‘tasteless’.
Fury played his part in one of the greatest heavyweight battles of all-time, losing out by a razor-thin split-decision to Oleksandr Usyk in a bout to crown the first undisputed champion of the division in a quarter of a century and the first ever four-belt title holder at the weight.
In the wake of his first career defeat, ‘The Gypsy King’ acted quick to activate his rematch clause and enforce a second encounter with the Ukrainian – which is expected to go ahead in December. Speaking to Boxing Social, Sauerland declared how Fury is more than capable of avenging the loss.
“If Tyson can shift the gears earlier and maintain that [he has a good chance in the rematch], I just felt almost like that there was something that he had but wasn’t using.
“That sounds a bit strange but there was something there, people will say ‘well, he should’ve used it’, absolutely he should have and I am sure that he will be looking at it and kicking himself when he watches those rounds.”
“It was the fourth or fifth round where he had a really good round and I thought ‘okay, he is going to build on this now’. Then, Usyk came back and he let Usyk back into the fight. I think that it was the sixth round, he let him back into it – that round was crucial because Tyson was swinging the fight and he let him back in.”
For now though, Tyson Fury appears to be enjoying himself after an extended training camp, allowing himself to unwind by having a few beers with his friends – although he may have been enjoying himself a little too much.
Sauerland went on to empathise with the former WBC champion and criticised the person who posted the video online, describing the decision as ‘tasteless’.
“Unfortunately, we are in a day and age where, if you are a superstar like Tyson Fury, you are going to have eyeballs on you, aren’t you? I think that it’s tragic, he has clearly had a big night out, who hasn’t? I will use an old fashion word, I am old enough to use that – tasteless. That is all that I have got to say – tasteless.”
A source close to Tyson Fury has since explained to The Sun that ‘he had has a couple too many [pints] and wasn’t feeling too well either’. Although, that hasn’t stopped Oleksandr Usyk’s manager taking a dig at the Brit upon witnessing the video – which has possibly giving the undisputed champion and his team even more belief that they can repeat the feat of overcoming Fury when the pair meet again.
