Former unified World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (26-0-0, 19 KO’s) made a successful return to the ring, as he dissected Albanain Sefer Seferi (23-2-0, 21 KO’s) in four one-sided rounds before Seferi in Manchester.
After making a typically tongue-in-cheek ring entrance, Fury began the contest in jovial fashion, clowning and joking with his opponent in a bizarre opening round that featured more posturing than punching.
The second round, however, saw ‘The Gypsy King’ utilise his ramrod jab and use his trademark feints to good effect, opening Seferi up for a clubbing right hand around the guard.
With Seferi offering little resistance, Fury began to sit down on his shots, putting his entire 276lbs frame behind some thudding blows and appearing to momentarily stagger Seferi.
Despite being out of action for over 30 months, Fury would offer glimpses of the hand and foot speed that led him to World championship glory, snapping Seferi’s head back with a sharp one-two in the fourth round, before hurting him with a bolo uppercut with the right hand.
After growing into proceedings and appearing to settle into a rhythm, fans were robbed of seeing any more of the Fury showcase, after Seferi retired at the end of the fourth round on his stool.
While there are undoubtedly steps for Fury to take en route to regaining top form, it is a box ticked for the 29-year-old, having successfully negotiated the first of what will surely be a series of comeback fights.
With promoter Frank Warren confirming Fury would return in Belfast on August 18th, Fury’s next opponent will give boxing fans more of an insight as to how quickly the former WBA/IBF/WBO World heavyweight will look to regain his spot on top of the heavyweight division.
