Floyd Mayweather is making headlines in big ways yet again after his recent interview with TMZ, during which ‘Money’ confirmed his move to mixed martial arts.
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will serve as Floyd’s trainer and Mayweather is looking to apply for a license sometime later this year.
Once the UFC puts the right amount of money on the table Floyd will step into the cage according to the man himself. Rumours say Mayweather is looking to make at least a half a billion dollars or more from his MMA debut in the UFC.
“I can wrestle. My wrestling game is not that bad. On a scale of one to ten I’d say it’s probably a seven. And I think we could probably take it up to a nine if possible. Of course, my hand game on a scale of one to ten is a hundred. The kicking game is probably a four. We have to tweak a few things and take things to the next level,” he explained in the TMZ interview.
Recently UFC commentator Joe Rogan shared his insight on Floyd’s chances in the UFC and especially against Conor McGregor.
“Conor will literally kill him [Floyd],” said Rogan during a recent episode of his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.
“It wouldn’t be fair. It’s not fair,” continued the commentator.
“People would understand the difference between Conor boxing Floyd where he got clearly outclassed but he hit him,” he added.
“Whatever the odds Vegas puts on [a McGregor vs. Mayweather MMA fight], that’s cute, If it’s 10-1, 100-1, I bet it’s going to be like 900-1. Something crazy. ‘Buster’ Douglas was only 42-1 [against Mike Tyson]. If they’re smart, because Conor’s going to kick his legs out – he’s not even going to have a chance to come close enough. Conor’s going to kick his legs out; he doesn’t have any chance. Then if he decides to shoot in and clinch, he’s going to clinch and he’s going to rag doll him,” explained Rogan.
Rogan also brought up the issue of Floyd breaking his hands in the past.
“The question is: Can Floyd fight the same way he does with big gloves, with MMA gloves?” pondered Rogan.
“I say this because Floyd’s broken his hands multiple times.
“He’s had some serious surgeries on his hands. Maybe they’ve cured it, and maybe they’re fine, but we’ve known for a long time he’s preferred puffier gloves when he’s fought.
“But he hasn’t had hand problems in a while. His hands looked (expletive) great against Conor.”
Mayweather is looking to apply for a license and we could potentially see Floyd in the UFC in 2018.
“It’s all about presenting the right numbers and of course they’re going to present the right numbers and we’re gonna make it happen,” said Mayweather to TMZ.
