Ben Whittaker’s manager, Lee Eaton, has confirmed that there will be a rematch between Whittaker and Liam Cameron. The news was shared by Eaton on the platform X after responding to a fan’s message.
The previous encounter between Whittaker and Cameron took place on October 12, as part of the main event’s undercard between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol. The fight, scheduled for 10 rounds in the light heavyweight division, ended unexpectedly. In the fifth round, both fighters collided and fell onto the top rope, an accident that caused them to tumble out of the ring and land on the edge.
The impact was such that Ben Whittaker sustained injuries, preventing him from continuing the fight.
The bout abruptly ended, declared a draw by split decision. Due to his injuries, Whittaker could not continue into the sixth round and had to be taken out of the arena in a wheelchair.
This dramatic outcome sparked controversy among the fans of both boxers, who believe a rematch is necessary. Whittaker’s promoter, Ben Shalom, confirmed that Whittaker won’t fight again this year. However, the boxer recently clarified on social media that his recovery is going well.
Now, according to Eaton on X, he recently had talks with Cameron’s lawyer, and they are already working on securing the fight. “Had good chat to his lawyer last night – Interesting convo – rematch will happen I’m sure of it,” Eaton wrote.
For now, we’ll have to wait and keep an eye on Ben Whittaker’s recovery progress. However, all signs suggest that we might see a rematch between him and Liam Cameron in 2025.
