The WBC have announced that today’s scheduled purse bid for Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight rematch with Tyson Fury has been delayed by one week as the two parties seek to strike a deal.
Having initially been given until February 5th, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman revealed on his official Twitter page that both sides had requested an extension to continue negotiations.

With Wilder entitled to a 60-40 split in the event of any purse bid, it is thought that Lineal champion Fury would not be willing to accept a smaller share of the purse as was revealed by Fury’s trainer in a recent interview with Boxing Social.
Following on from the success – and controversy – of their first encounter in Los Angeles in December, both Wilder and Fury are set to make a career-highest payday for the rematch, with Las Vegas and New York the two rumoured destinations.
Despite both Wilder and Fury being linked with a showdown with unified champion Anthony Joshua in recent weeks, both camps have remained resolute in their willingness to ensure a rematch is made.
With Joshua expected to announce a bout with unbeaten New Yorker Jarrell Miller in the coming days, the path has been made clear for Wilder and Fury to renew their rivalry.
Though Matchroom Boxing supremo Eddie Hearn has teased an interest in producing a mammoth offer in the event of any purse bid, it is believed that both Wilder and Fury remain committed to striking a deal before any such event.
With the Essex promoter having a notoriously frosty relationship with both Shelly Finkel and Frank Warren – who look after the interests of Wilder and Fury respectively – it is thought that both camps will seek to come to a deal in order to avoid any potential interest from Hearn’s streaming broadcast partner DAZN.
