Ahead of his expected undisputed heavyweight title showdown against Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder has already revealed big plans for his future.
The WBC World heavyweight belt holder confidently anticipates claiming the boxing heavyweight throne from the WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO champion and then taking over the cruiserweight division.
“I’ve been just sitting in my car thinking. I’ve been thinking about once I unify the heavyweight division, moving down to the cruiserweight division, taking over that division,” said Wilder in a video on his Instagram page.
Should Wilder get past Joshua, the ambitious American heavyweight wants to be remembered as the first undisputed heavyweight champion to seize control of the cruiserweight division in the same manner by claiming all the titles.
“I mean there’s never been a heavyweight champion [that’s] ever gone down in weight. I mean just for the fun of it. Just taking over the cruiserweight division while maintaining the heavyweight division,” he continued.
Recently Wilder promised that the championship clash against Joshua will happen despite negotiations hitting a wall in terms of where the fight will be. Promoter Eddie Hearn is expecting to get an answer from Team Wilder within the next two weeks with hopes of organising the fight in the UK.
“We are probably about two weeks away from a decision on AJ’s next fight. September has been earmarked for his return and all focus remains on Deontay Wilder.
“AJ and the team believe that after everything that’s been built here, the UK should be the home of this historic undisputed bout and conversations continue with the Wilder camp,” said Hearn according to the Daily Mail.
