The former WBC World welterweight champion is gunning for a new career in mixed martial arts.
Andre Berto, the last professional boxer who fought Mayweather, is 1-2 in his last three fights. He fought Shawn Porter last April and lost via technical knockout in round nine. From the looks of it, that fight will Berto’s last in professional boxing – at least for now.
He is ready to make the move over to MMA and called out the UFC President Dana White.
“I want all of ‘em! Dana White, you know me, you know my family’s been in MMA for a while, I’m coming to the UFC so Dana White, call me! Tell Dana to call me. I’ll go to the UFC. I wanna be the first fighter ever to be a world champion in boxing and go get a UFC world title. It’s never been done. That’s never been done. Tell Dana to holler at me!” said Berto according to TMZ.
Berto’s father, Dieseul Berto, competed in professional MMA during the mid 90’s. He fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship once in 1996 (UFC 10) and lost via TKO. In total, he fought three times during his career and lost every fight.
Berto’s brother James Edson (17-12) and sister Revelina (3-1) also compete in MMA today professionally. However, neither have fought in the UFC and brother Andre is more than happy to take that step.
