Big super middleweight David Benavidez has called out a rival off the back of his latest win but at the same time has also claimed ‘they ducked me.’
Benavidez continues to hunt for the biggest fights. Back in 2023, he knocked out the previously unbeaten middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade who had moved up in weight for the first time.
He has also beaten the likes of Caleb Planet and David Lemieux and has been the WBC world champion twice, as well as being ranked second best in his division by The Ring magazine.
Benavidez stands 6 ft 2 in tall and has one of the highest punching outputs in boxing, a stat which he maintained in his last fight with Andrade as ‘The Mexican Monster’ continues to work towards becoming a three-time world champion.
He knocked Ryder down four times on the way to a ninth-round stoppage and is himself looking to earn a shot at Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez who is currently in possession of all four major titles in the division and yet to name an opponent for his traditional May fight date.
But Benavidez is a man who would very much like to get in the way. In a message shared on X after the fight, he made it clear he thinks Munguia has swerved his advances for a fight and claimed it would be a straightforward night for him.
“This a easy knock out. That’s why they ducked me.”
A round-robin of some sort between these three super middleweights would be fascinating indeed.
