Bob Arum has revealed he has three fights he can offer undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney, following his victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko last month.
Haney’s deal with Arum’s Top Rank concluded after the fight, meaning ‘The Dream’ has full regency on whether he wants to remain with them for his next outing, or look elsewhere.
Arum detailed the options he would present to Haney’s father Bill whilst appearing on The 3 Knockdown Rule.
“One may be the winner of Taylor and Teofimo at 140, if he wants to go up in weight.
Secondly, there is a fight with Shakur that would be massive, everyone would want to see that fight. And third is the rematch [with Lomachenko].
If Bill comes to New York for the Taylor vs Teofimo fight, I’ll sit with him. He’s a very intelligent guy, and we’ll discuss all the options that we at Top Rank can offer. Then he’ll have to weigh it against what every other promoter can offer and decide what they want to do next.
We’ve enjoyed promoting Devin, and we hope it continues.”
It seems unlikely the American will give the 35 year old Lomachenko a rematch, even though the fight was potentially close enough to warrant one.
Having made no secret of the fact the cut down to 135lbs is a tough one for him, it remains unclear whether or not Haney will look to defend his titles or vacate and move up in weight.
Haney has been linked to a fight with WBC light welterweight champion Regis Prograis, and is expected to attend his title defence against Danielito Zorilla later this month.
