Back in November, Frank Warren and Queensberry promotions staged the domestic card of the year as a bill named ‘The Magnificent Seven’ saw a plethora of title bouts go ahead on the same night in Manchester.
Four months later, a card of the same name and style went ahead in Birmingham and now ‘The Magnificent Seven’ will return for a third time, again in Birmingham, where a former undisputed world champion is poised to feature on the bill.
Nathan Heaney vs. Brad Pauls II – British Middleweight Title
Heaney-Pauls headlined the previous card in Birmingham and ended the event in style with a true domestic bust-up that saw Heaney hang on to his British middleweight title by the skin of his teeth, as a game Brad Pauls proved himself to be a more than worthy challenger for the Lonsdale belt.
After a mouth-watering first encounter, Pauls has been presented with the opportunity to go one better and put an end to Heaney’s undefeated record, with talks of a world title challenge for the ‘Hitman’ appearing to have collapsed.
Liam Davies vs. Shabaz Masoud – IBO Super-Bantamweight Title
Despite the allure of the rematch between Heaney and Pauls, the standout bout of the night is sure to be Liam Davies against Shabaz Masoud, with a potential showdown with pound-for-pound superstar Naoya Inoue possibly on the line.
The clash sees two undefeated 122lbers go head-to-head and the represents the biggest tests in the career of Davies – who has had a stellar twelve months, during which he strung together three consecutive knockout wins.
Sol Dacres vs. David Adeleye – English Heavyweight Title
Meanwhile, David Adeleye has had a rough time recently and has quickly become a forgotten man in terms of Britain’s heavyweight prospects following his stoppage defeat to Fabio Wardley.
Regardless of the fact that he has lost just once, his challenge against Sol Dacres for the English title could quite possibly be last chance saloon for ‘Big D’, as he looks to put an end to Dacres’ title reign at the first attempt and position himself for another shot at the British title.
Chantelle Cameron vs. Elhem Mekhaled – WBC Interim Super-Lightweight Title
Queensberry recently announced the signing of former undisputed super-lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron, after the 33-year-old left Matchroom due to frustrations at being unable to land a trilogy contest against Katie Taylor, following their two barnstormers last year.
‘Il Capo’ will face France’s Elhem Mekhaled on her debut with the promotional outfit, as she battles it out for the WBC interim belt, which will position her well for another showdown with the winner of Taylor-Serrano II or for a possibly vacant title in the future.
Ash Lane vs. Andrew Cain – British Bantamweight Title
Ash Lane has provided Britain’s upset of the year thus far, shocking the country with a knockout win over Chris Bourke in March to pick up the British title. Lane will set out to prove that his victory was no fluke as he makes his first defence of the strap, but he will have his work cut out for him against the hard-hitting Andrew Cain, who has ten knockouts in his eleven victories to date.
Owen Cooper vs. Ekow Essuman = English Welterweight Title
Ekow Essuman will also return to action after his surprise defeat to Harry Scarff on the Manchester ‘Magnificent Seven’ card, he will drop down to fight for the English title against Owen Cooper – who secured a career-best win over Eithan James last time out.
Finally, Ezra Taylor will defend his Commonwealth silver light-heavyweight crown against his unnamed opponent, on what is sure to be another cracking Queensberry bill in Birmingham on July 20th.
