The Fury Joshua fight is signed — and Eddie Hearn has just raised the possibility of a contract breach to stop it leaving Britain. Speaking to FightHype (via Boxing News 24), the Matchroom boss escalated his opposition to staging Anthony Joshua against Tyson Fury at Madison Square Garden, the New York venue that backers say would generate the biggest numbers.
“We signed for this fight in the UK,” Hearn said. “We are desperate to deliver this fight for UK fans. However, everybody else wants the fight in America: Turki Alalshikh, Netflix. I can’t speak on behalf of Tyson Fury; I don’t see him kicking up a fuss. Madison Square Garden. So, they’re telling us this is the place it’s going to do the biggest numbers.”
What The Row Means For The Fury Joshua Fight
Hearn has pushed his preference for a British staging for weeks, but this is the furthest he has gone. “I disagree,” he added. “But at the end we’ll fight, and we’ll fight, and we’ll fight to a point where they’ve breached the contract by doing it in America, or we come to an agreement.”
That is pointed language given Hearn’s close working relationship with Alalshikh, who has bankrolled a string of Matchroom shows. By his own admission he does not expect Fury to resist New York, which would leave Matchroom as the last real obstacle to the move. For now the dispute is no longer a simple Britain-or-America choice — it is a question of how far Hearn will go to enforce the deal he signed.
