The unified WBC, WBA world welterweight champion, Keith Thurman has touched on his plans moving forward, in particular, his rehabilitation from an elbow injury and the potential unification showdown against Errol Spence Jr lying down the road.
“You guys keep talking about it, but it is definitely on hold until next year. It is not on my to-do list, it is not on my immediate to-do list,” Thurman began.
“My immediate to-do list is to get back, get healthy. I don’t know per se but Shawn Porter is a mandatory.”
“First time we fought, I fought representing the WBA title. Now, he is mandated through the WBC.”
“This is a different situation and he worked hard. He has wanted the rematch since he lost and he put himself in position to get the rematch.”

“I feel like I am going to have some obligations before we can even open up that discussion” Thurman added, referring to a potential unification bout with Spence Jr.”
“So yes, technically it is on hold. It is not what is on the plate right now,” ‘One Time’ Thurman added.
“In New York, he said he is ready to fight me, when I am ready”
“Well guess what, honestly I am not ready. Not because I am not ready but because I have got things to do.”
Thurman was quick to add that there is “definitely no chance” that the fight will not happen down the road but stressed the need to let big-fights marinate and grow in size.
Furthermore, Thurman used Floyd Mayweather Jr’s career as an example. “Look at how long Floyd postponed many fights in his career. They still ended up happening, one we all know about Manny Pacquiao fight but what about the Shane Mosely fight”
