This week Amir Khan stepped from one jungle to another as he announced he is back in boxing. The hand is healed, and more importantly, problems with wife and family are finally resolved.
Khan showed his true colours and his very likeable self in his weeks in the Australian outback at the end of last year in ‘I’m a Celebrity’ and remains very charismatic, and friendly.

This week he announced a deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, and a welcome return to the ring on April 21st at the Liverpool Echo Arena, which will be the first time he has boxed in the UK since his 2013 win over Julio Diaz.
Amir still has all his enthusiasm for boxing and is remarkably still focused and hungry for success. He still believes a third world title win is a distinct possibility despite his very heavy knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez almost 2 years ago in Las Vegas.

He said he has come to terms with the loss and in retrospect, he took on a lot more than he could handle in the excellent middleweight division. With his long term injured hand operated on and fixed, and personal problems fully aired and settled, he is ready to resume what has been a successful career.
Obvious thoughts on the return and his switch to Matchroom beg the question of former welterweight champion Kell Brook. Khan’s rival returns from back to back stoppage losses to Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jnr on March 3rd. ‘Special K’ takes on the challenge against the solid Belarus super welterweight Sergey Rabchenko in Sheffield.

Surely now the long awaited clash of Khan and Brook can finally be made, but unfortunately, like so many terrific clashes, this product is slightly past its sell by date. However, regardless if both can show glimmers of their glorious pasts, it will still be well worth the wait.
