The undefeated IBF world welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr says he is open to the possibility of taking on another Matchroom fighter now that Amir Khan has signed a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s promotional company.
Errol Spence won that title in May of 2017 when he brutally overran the work rate of former champion Kell Brook in Sheffield, UK.
He will make the first defence of that title reign against the 2-weight world champion, Lamont Peterson. That fight will take place at The Barclays Center in New York on January 20th.
"The top spot in the sport is really up for grabs now and I'm coming for it. I don't care who I have to face or where, I'm going to be the last man standing. That's why we all get into this sport. I'm extremely confident in myself. ~ @errolspencejr đŸ“¸â€¦ https://t.co/XPlwryI7MIpic.twitter.com/ePunlsLw0W

Many are already building Spence as the next longtime American ruler of the glamorous and decorated welterweight division.
Following a line of the lineage dating back to the days of Sugar Ray Robinson followed through by Sugar Ray Leonard, Pernell Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather to name a few who have accomplished the feat as an American native who is the standout fighter of their time at 147 lbs.
‘The Truth’ has stated his willingness to take on any challenge the welterweight division has to offer. Spence includes Amir Khan in those statements and has shared it is a fight that he would consider if it is presented to him.
“It’s something I would consider,” Spence Jr exclusively told Sky Sports, when asked about facing Khan.

“He’s a big name too, so if my manager came to me with that, I would consider it and talk with my coaches about it. I don’t see why not, why it can’t take place.”

“He has basically been an American fighter. Of course, he’s a more known name than Kell Brook.”

“I can’t really say but Kell is a lot stronger and probably on that, he’s a lot harder,” he said.
“But Amir Khan will spend more time moving around the ring and more time boxing so I couldn’t say right now.”
