Former IBF world featherweight champion Lee Selby will make his long awaited return to action on the DeGale-Eubank undercard on Febriary 23rd at The O2 Arena in London.
Selby, who lost his 126lbs title last time out against Josh Warrington at Elland Road in May, will move up two weight classes to lightweight after admitting previous struggles with making the featherweight limit.
The Barry-native will face off against American Omar Douglas, whose two career defeats have come at the hands of fringe contenders Edner Cherry and Javier Fortuna.
Now 31-years-old, Selby spoke of his eagerness to return to the ring and become a two-weight World champion by claiming hardware at his new weight class.
“The featherweight division was one of the toughest weight classes and I reached the top as IBF world champion.” said Selby.
“It’s the same mission now at lightweight and I can’t wait to get back to business.”
With the lightweight division also boasting some of the sport’s most talented operators in WBO/WBA champion Vasyl Lomachenko and WBC king Mikey Garcia, Selby will know there are no easy routes to World honours.
However, after previously being named as ‘Fighter of the Year’ by the IBF – whose title at 135lbs remains vacant following Garcia’s decision to pursue a fight with Errol Spence Jr. at welterweight – ‘Lightning’ Lee may look to position himself for a shot at the IBF title in the near future.
