WBO super-welterweight champion Tim Tszyu had had a rollercoaster few weeks in preparation for the second defence of his world title, and now he has been offered another huge opportunity, should he be successful at the weekend.
‘The Soul Taker’ was originally scheduled to take on former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman, although the inactive American was forced to pull out just 12 days before fight night.
Up stepped Sebastian Fundora from the undercard, a man who towers over the champion with an astonishing nine-inch height advantage and his involvement saw the addition of the vacant WBC super-welterweight title.
Despite a second belt being up for grabs, the most significant incentive for victory could be the opportunity to face Terence Crawford for huge money and a chance to become a worldwide superstar, after ‘Bud’ activated his ‘super champion’ status with the WBO.
Although, Errol Spence Jr has now also offered to take on the winner, in a bid to become a two-weight world champion.
“Headed to Vegas. I want the winner!! #TszyuFundora”
In response, Tszyu issued a warning in an interview with Fight Hub TV, declaring this a ‘new generation’ and insinuating that he is at the forefront of it.
“Finally, he has woken up.
“Look, I am ready. I am ready to be taken on, I’d love that fight with open arms, I’ve been calling him out for a long time now.
“They [Spence and Crawford] are superstars in this sport. They have achieved so much and I am the new blood, this is a new generation and it would be great to have a fight with both of them.”
First he must defeated Fundora on Saturday night, headlining a card that can be watched on Amazon in the U.S. but elsewhere in the U.K.
