Tyson Fury has talked up his father’s chances against Jake Paul following a bizarre – and topless – ringside altercation between the two and offered a solution to settle things once and for all.
Fury’s half-brother, Tommy, has been long overdue to fight Paul, with two bouts falling through and a third attempt apparently in the negotiation stage.
Whilst hyping the fight at Tommy’s recent exhibition, John Fury unleashed a torrent of abuse at Paul who has a special ringside guest. He took his shirt off and told the American to forget his son and face him ‘bareknuckle.’
The WBC Heavyweight Champion told the MMA Hour that he would love to see his 58-year-old dad face 25-year-old Paul and suggested a bare-knuckle fight to the end.
“I think my dad would rip his heart out and feed it to him and the man is nearly 60 years old.
I think my dad and Jake Paul should have a bare-knuckle fight to the end. That would be a spectacle and I would give $100 to see it, pay-per-view.”
At this stage the cross generational battle may be more likely to happen than Jake Paul facing Tommy Fury.
The public negotiations between the two young fighters are confusing and hostile, and, whilst a fight for early 2023 has been floated, it’s clear that it would take one small issue to rumble proceedings.
Despite being under Frank Warren’s Queensberry promotional banner, Fury has mentioned Global Titans – a new company on the block who promoted his exhibition fight in Dubai – as the people for Paul to deal with.
Paul, who has a deal with SHOWTIME, has said he is willing to come to the UK given that the reason their second proposed fight fell through was travel issues on Fury’s part. Having said that, he wants Fury’s side to put up their own purse to avoid losing any more money without having a fight at the end of it.
