John Fury recently made his feelings clear on his son’s trainer, SugarHill Steward, calling for Tyson to sack the American and just as the situation appeared to reach a lull, Fury Snr has doubled down on his comments.
He wasn’t happy with Steward after the American denied being in camp with Tyson to help prepare him for an undisputed clash against Oleksandr Usyk, which never came to fruition. Instead, Steward explained that he was helping Lawrence Okolie train for his cruiserweight title defence against David Light, revealing that he had not been involved in Fury’s camp.
For this, ‘Big John’ labelled him a ‘Judas’ and encouraged Tyson to sack the man who guided him to becoming a two-time heavyweight champion.
Since then, Steward has refused to comment on the matter, claiming that if John has any issues, they will discuss the matter privately.
However, in an interview with The Metro via freebets.com, the 58-year-old Brit kept the conflict in the public eye, claiming he doesn’t want to be near him again.
‘It is up to Tyson what he does but I won’t be speaking to SugarHill no more. I don’t want to be in the same room as him again. That’s it.”
“He was nobody before Tyson took him on board, he was sweeping up his uncle’s gym doing nothing.”
“It is all about dollars for some of these men so let them jog on.”
“You’ve got to have your man’s back. Tyson might feel different, but when someone has put you on the map, show them some respect.”
Tyson Fury has made no comment on his trainer situation, and it seems like he and Steward have no issues.
One issue Fury does have is finding a dance partner for his next outing, with US promoter, Bob Arum, admitting that ‘The Gypsy King’ may skip a summer fight and wait to fight Usyk in December.
