Natasha Jonas is waiting for her next fight to be confirmed.
The Liverpool super-welterweight holds the WBO world championship at the weight and had hoped that, by now, she would have a deal to unify the division.
Jonas won the belt with a stunning knockout at Manchester Arena in February, ending the challenge of Chris Namus inside two rounds on the undercard of Kell Brook’s win over Amir Khan.
And the 38-year-old southpaw, now under the guidance of Ben Shalom and Boxxer, quickly turned her attention to Hannah Rankin.
The Scot has the WBA and IBO titles in the 154-pound division and had been weighing up an offer to meet ‘Miss GB’ later this year. That was until it became clear that Terri Harper will be stepping into the weight division.
Boxing Social understands a substantial offer has been made by Eddie Hearn for former WBC and IBO super-featherweight champion Harper to move up and take on Rankin, with that being the more likely option as it stands.
But the aforementioned Boxxer head Shalom has said that he has made an offer to Rankin that is “life-changing” in the hope to get her in the ring with former Olympian Jonas.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:
“We put a huge offer into Hannah Rankin.
“Whether they accept or not, I don’t know, but a six-figure offer to fight against Tasha Jonas. If they don’t want it, they don’t want it and we have to move on.”
Boxxer returns to Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena on September 3 with Liam Smith headlining against Hassan Mwakinyo.
And Jonas could well be added to that card, but the fight with Rankin was being lined up to take place as part of the supporting cast to Claressa Shields’ clash with WBO middleweight champion Savannah Marshall as the pair meet in an undisputed fight with the WBC, IBF and WBA belts also at stake.
“We offered her a six-figure opportunity to be on the biggest women’s card of all-time at the O2, live on Sky Sports, with two fights win or lose returning on Sky.
“Tasha obviously wanted to fight in Liverpool, we understood Hannah maybe wouldn’t want to fight in Liverpool for that fight and that’s why we allowed it to go to London.
“The opportunity to fight for huge, huge money and a Sky contract as well – we can’t do much more as a promoter.”
Details regarding the return of Jonas, which is likely to come on the same card as ‘Beefy’s’ home city return against former IBO champion Mwakinyo, will be revealed in due course.
