Even before Artur Beterbiev stepped in the ring with Callum Smith this last weekend, Dmitry Bivol had claimed he had signed to face his fellow light heavyweight in an undisputed fight but now Beterbiev has responded and asked ‘how?’
Beterbiev once again managed to knock out his 20th straight victim in Montreal on Saturday night. The stoppage came after the unified champion slowly but surely increased the pressure on former super middleweight king Smith.
He then knocked him down once in the seventh, then again moments later. It was over when Smith’s corner threw in the towel to save their man from more inevitable punishment from the hard-hitting undefeated ‘beast.’
In the post-fight press conference captured by Boxing Social, he was asked if he had signed to fight Bivol next.
“He talks always like this, last four years or five years he say he gonna fight his next fight with me. Then he says when I have fight in the next two weeks that he already signed a contract with me. How can he sign a contract with me?
“I know nothing about fight date. He already signed. How?”
It was then put to Beterbiev that the undisputed fight had a long way to go to being organised. ”
“It’s always like this with boxers.”
He was then asked if an offer had been made.
“No. Nobody tell me dates, names. He tell only, but I don’t believe him.”
