UFC President Dana White might have more confidence in Conor McGregor than anybody else. The longtime boss of the Ultimate Fighting Championship has witnessed the Irishman’s rise to the top of the sports world close by.
White was recently a guest on Sky Sports and talked about the upcoming fight against Floyd Mayweather and why he believes McGregor will win. White has seen McGregor achieve big things in MMA and most of the time against the odds. He is confident his superstar will do the job on August 26th.
“I stopped doubting Conor McGregor a long time ago,” he said. “Everything he’s told me he’s going to do, he’s done, so if he says he’ll beat Floyd Mayweather inside four rounds, he will. I don’t think Conor underestimates him, he obviously respects him but you’ve got to remember – Floyd is 41 years old and Conor McGregor is 28 years old,” said White.
The UFC President believes McGregor has a good chance at beating Mayweather because of the size difference and because – it’s simply a fight.
He’s the bigger, stronger fighter. People aren’t giving him a chance and that’s just crazy. This is going to be a fight, and anything can happen in a fight,” he commented.
White then went on talking about the benefits of fighting with the smaller 8 ounce gloves. Though right now the official glove size is 10 ounce. The Nevada State Athletic Commission will vote on the matter on August 16th.
White said McGregor has a way better chance of beating Floyd should the commission vote for the 8 ounce gloves.
“It definitely benefits Conor. First of all, Floyd isn’t a big puncher, he’s not a knockout puncher. His whole game is defence, using the gloves to defend himself and smaller gloves means Conor will have more places to hit. We’ve always wanted to have smaller gloves, they didn’t want it and now all of a sudden Floyd has decided that he wants smaller gloves,” stated White.
The majority of the Mayweather fans are absolutely sure that Floyd can and will knock McGregor out. White says ‘The Notorious’ isn’t bothered about Floyd’s power.
“Conor isn’t concerned about Floyd’s punching power at all.”
Mayweather and McGregor will meet on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
