Deontay Wilder has taken a break from dropping his opponents to drop some bars in a music video for his song, Everytime.
It’s all smiles, jewellery, cars, and sensual touching in the video. So much so that anyone unfamiliar with boxing would be forgiven for thinking that there’s no way the artist has knocked out over 40 men.
In what can be termed as a love letter to his fiancé, Telli Swift, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ sings of sex, love, and happiness in his first musical release. His brother Marsellos, also a boxer, features too.
In terms of lyrics, one might call it ‘minimalist’ – the track going a little something like:
“I’m really in the mood, Baby. Let’s get in the groove, Baby. So, what you got to loose, Baby. It’s just me and you, Ba-by. I’m really in the mood, Baby. Let’s get in the groove, Baby. So, what you got to loose, Baby. It’s just me and you, Ba-by.”
Although it’s not quite as wordy as Bohemian Rhapsody, it’s been played over 35,000 times on Spotify and the comments are largely positive.
Having said that, Wilder will likely want to put the peace and love on hold to resume his menacing presence ahead of his fight with Andy Ruiz Jr, as the winner is in line for a shot at the WBC title in 2023.
With the news that the current champion, Tyson Fury, is releasing a cover of boxing favourite, Sweet Caroline (Duh Duh Duhhh), maybe the two will be battling for the top of the charts rather than battering one another in the ring – or maybe both with some very personal ring walks.
In what appears like a trend, it’s anybody’s guess which fighter might enter the music scene next. Perhaps a supergroup with Mayweather, Canelo, Khan, and Calzaghe?
