Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is hours away from facing Gennady Golovkin for the third time. Despite already having a win over his opponent, it’s one many in the boxing world don’t agree with, and he’s looking to clear up any doubt in Las Vegas tonight.
The two fighters are modern-day legends of the sport in their own rights. Canelo is undisputed super middleweight champion – the titles that will be at stake tonight – and Golovkin has two middleweight belts.
They’ve shared 24 rounds together, trading hard punches and barely taking a step back. Whilst ‘GGG’ has said that how he fights all depends on what his opponent brings to the ring, Canelo has been open about trying to end tonight’s bout before the final bell.
The Mexican has posted footage of him hitting the pads with trainer Eddy Reynoso before the fight, and it looks like he’s coming in to overwhelm an ageing ‘Triple G.’

We’ve seen similar before, and fans are well aware that it’s easy to look good when nothing’s being thrown back. Having said that, Canelo’s speed here is undeniable.
Golovkin has famously taken his shots and survived, even recently saying a particularly solid punch in their second fight ‘felt more like a slap.’
That was 4 years ago though, and plenty of miles have been added to ‘Triple G’s clock. He’s at the tail end of his career, but, it’s worth noting, in great shape and confident he still has enough to take the super middleweight belts.
Many might argue that it would be justice for the Kazakh fighter to win. He was hard done by in the first fight and, some say, the second too. But it’s hard to bet against Canelo, and videos like this don’t make it any easier.
However you’re predicting it, a focused-Canelo coming off a loss and an experienced and determined Golovkin looking to avenge the one defeat of his career means fireworks in Vegas.
