Conor Benn was expected to meet soon with the British Boxing Board Of Control with regard to getting back his license to fight in the UK and now his promoter Eddie Hearn has given another major update on the situation.
Benn is coming off the back of a 12 round points win in Las Vegas against Peter Dobson, only his second fight in almost two years since he was sidelined from boxing in the UK following two failed drug tests in 2022 before his bout with Chris Eubank Jr.
Despite clearance from the WBC and the lifting of his suspension by the National Anti-Doping Panel in July last year, UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed, prolonging Benn’s absence from UK boxing.
Speaking to TalkSport boxing, Hearn claimed the appeal has happened and the decision is now being made.
“We’ve dealt with the appeal and the decision will be pending on that and we hope the decision will be positive for us after what is now after nearly two years since the first test the we took.”
Once that has been announced the focus will shift to securing an opponent for Benn.
“There hasn’t been a big name that hasn’t called out Conor Benn. Errol Spence, Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia, there is the Gervonta Davis talk, Kell Brook, so we’ve just got to sort one of those.
“We’ve got to get this decision from the board and then we will decide where we fight next, and hopefully that will be the UK.”
