A potential showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has once again become the hottest topic in the boxing world following Fury’s recent victory in his comeback fight.
Fury, who had been away from the ring for 16 months and had announced what was widely seen as his fifth retirement, made a commanding return to action. The ‘Gypsy King’ faced Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov and delivered a dominant performance, securing a lopsided unanimous decision victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on April 11.
Heavyweight super fight
However, the biggest talking point of the night came after the final bell. From inside the ring, Fury called out Joshua, reigniting hopes of a long-awaited mega fight. Joshua, who was present at ringside, congratulated Fury on his victory but declined a face-off, opting instead for a respectful exchange.
The moment was enough to once again spark excitement among fans, many of whom have been waiting years to see the two British heavyweights go against each other. The potential fight has started dominating headlines. Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou chimed in and shared his verdict.
Ngannou fought both Fury & Joshua
Ngannou, who went the distance with Fury in 2023 before suffering a stoppage defeat to Joshua in 2024, believes the outcome would be far from predictable.
Speaking to FightHype, Ngannou praises the skills of both fighters; however, he slightly gave Fury the edge due to his awkward movement and ring IQ, which make him difficult to beat.
“I think it’s a great fight. How it’s going to go? It’s the fight game – nobody knows what will happen. They are both elite fighters, but we all know how tricky Fury can be. He’s managed to be very hard to beat,” Ngannou said.
For years, negotiations and circumstances have prevented the bout from becoming a reality. However, with both fighters now active, near retirement, and public interest at its peak once again, optimism is growing that the fight could finally be made later this year or early next year.
As for Joshua, he also returned to the winning column after suffering a devastating loss to Daniel Dubois in 2024. He faced Jack Paul at the Kaseya Center in Miami last December and secured a knockout victory in round six.
Now that both fighters are in the win column, if the fight does happen, it would not only be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history but also a defining moment for the heavyweight division.
