Heavyweight contender, Martin Bakole, has risen up the rankings over the last twelve months, and is now demanding the biggest fight of his career against a new rival in Dillian Whyte.
Bakole’s reputation has risen from a respected heavyweight to a genuine threat to the division’s top players following his shock victory over Olympic gold medallist, Tony Yoka, last year.
Since the career-best win, Bakole has earnt a new deal with BOXXER that will see him fight on Sky Sports for the foreseeable future as he pursues heavyweight glory.
On his Sky Sports debut, the Congolese big man continued his rich vein of form, scoring a third-round knockout over Ihor ‘Hulk’ Shevadzutskyi, before calling out Whyte and clashing with him in a heated confrontation in the arena.
In an interview with iFL TV, Bakole seemed determined the make the fight happen.
“I went mad because he called me names. If someone call me out and I’m ready to face him, I’d say ‘hey, I am ready, let’s make the fight’.
If you are not ready, just keep quiet, why call me names that make me feel like that? He [Whyte] is scared. I saw that he was scared, and he ran away, he was calling me upstairs, whilst the ring is downstairs. He is scared.”
“I want to stop him. I want to stop him cold, like Tyson Fury did. I will knock him out, bad. I want this fight to happen and everyone will see that I am right, they will see that I am not talking just to talk.”
“For me, the fight is on.”
Whilst Bakole is keen on what would undoubtedly be a career-high payday in a grudge match against Whyte, his proposed opponent may take his time accepting any offers, with a potential rematch with Anthony Joshua seemingly on the cards.
