On Friday, November 15, 2024, the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, hosted the highly anticipated showdown between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. The outcome left many stunned, as the controversial YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul defeated the legendary “Iron” Mike Tyson, 58, by unanimous decision.
The fight sparked controversy even before it took place. Many fans and experts questioned the decision to pit the 27-year-old Jake Paul against a man nearly 60 years old, even if it was the iconic Mike Tyson, who once held the title of “The Baddest Man on the Planet.”
The age and experience gap between the two fighters was a major point of discussion on social media and among boxing analysts.
After the match, former British champion Carl Froch wasted no time sharing his opinions online. Known for his blunt style, Froch criticized the event and Jake Paul’s image:
“He’s [Jake Paul] such a big commodity. He sells tickets, he puts bums on seats. People are interested. Netflix 30 million. Come on! 74,000 at the AT&T Stadium, not quite 80,000 is it?” commented Froch.
The Brit also expressed doubts about Jake Paul’s true standing as a professional boxer.
“He’s not there yet. He is getting there but he’s not quite there. He doesn’t do the big crowds, does he? But he pulls in the old bunsen burner, doesn’t he, Jake Paul. So I don’t think he will hang his gloves up. There’ll be a plan for Jake Paul. I’ll tell you what, my mobile phone won’t be ringing, will it? Won’t be,” said Froch.
“Sending me an email… They won’t be contacting my agent to get a fight because they know I ain’t calling him out,” Froch added.
Finally, Froch escalated the rhetoric and delivered a direct provocation to Paul:
“I fucking know if I went in there with Jake Paul, it would be an absolute mismatch. One round demolition job. I’d even tie one arm behind my back, and just imagine one arm behind my back, lining him up with this right hand and eventually smashing him with a big uppercut or a big overhand dirty stinker, putting him in the “El Sparko” position like he’s been tasered,” Froch concluded.
Jake Paul, known for his controversial nature, didn’t take long to respond to Carl Froch’s statements.
Through his official account on “X” (formerly Twitter), Paul addressed Froch with a defiant tone:
“Fucking sour loser. Shut the fuck up. I’ve done more in 4 years than you have in your life. First and last time I respond to your broke salty ass. Let me know if you want to wash my cars,” replied Paul.
In response to Jake Paul’s bold comments, Froch didn’t hold back and fired back at Paul even more forcefully on his “X” account.
“Listen up, Jakey boy… @jakepaul I’ve been retired for 11 years, haven’t done a single round of boxing in over a decade. I’m old, grey, and out of shape. But I’d still give your missus the best night of her life! I bet she dreams about a real man 💪🏼 Let me know if you still want your cars washed, she can let me in through The Back Door. PS, I’d knock you out in 30 seconds, you are USELESS 🤡😂,” Froch replied.
The showdown between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has left a bittersweet taste in the boxing community. Some view it as a spectacle, while others believe it undermines the integrity of the sport.
