After the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was postponed until later this year, it seemed that Paul wouldn’t be taking a bout in the interim, but that has all changed as it has now been confirmed that he will now face former UFC star Mike Perry next month instead.
Youtuber-turned-boxer Paul was set to do battle with boxing legend Tyson in a highly controversial contest at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday 20 July, streamed live on Netflix in their first ever entry into live boxing.
There were plenty of concerns going into the bout, with onlookers noting the massive 30 year age difference, along with worrying reports about Tyson’s physical health, but despite the negativity, plans were in place to go full steam ahead with the fight.
An issue arose last month though, after a medical incident for Tyson whilst on a flight led to an ulcer flare up, with medical professionals informing him that he would be unable to train fully ahead of the fight.
With that in mind, the decision was made to push back the fight, with a new date of Friday 15 November announced last week.
Paul has been known to stay active during his time within boxing, and it appears that he had no intentions to wait around this time either, after a clash with Perry on the original July 20 date has been announced.
Perry is best known for his time spent in the UFC, making his debut for the MMA organisation back in August 2016, fighting 15 times before his final contest in April 2021.
He has since made the switch to bare knuckle boxing, where he has put together an impressive 5-0 record, including stoppage wins over former UFC champions Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez.
Perry will now step into the ring against Paul, potentially looking to throw a spanner into the works and claim a win that could derail a clash against Tyson later this year.
