John Fury, father of heavyweight champion, Tyson, has laid out his prediction ahead of Anthony Joshua’s upcoming rematch with Dillian Whyte, which will leave the loser in no-man’s-land in the heavyweight hierarchy.
Joshua and Whyte’s fierce rivalry dates back to their days as amateurs, where the latter handed ‘AJ’ his first taste of defeat in the squared circle and dealt him a heavy knockdown that neither man will forget.
However, six years later, the pair met once again, and Anthony Joshua claimed his revenge, scoring a highlight-reel knockout over his fellow Londoner to win the British Heavyweight Title.
Now the pair will meet for a second time as professionals, the scores tied at 1-1 with the inclusion of their amateur skirmish.
In an interview with Boxing Social, John Fury said he thinks the third instalment of this trilogy will be relatively one-sided.
“I do believe that he is on the slide, Dillian Whyte. I see AJ doing him in sensational style, I see AJ chinning him.
Dillian Whyte has been a great ambassador for the job, great heavyweight, but he is at the end of his career, he’s had too many good hidings and he doesn’t like left hooks, does he? Or uppercuts! I see Joshua [winning], he’s that bit fresher.”
Fury went on to deny that the loser of the contest should hang up the gloves, but admitted that they would struggle to find their way back to the peak of the division.
“No [they shouldn’t retire], they’ve got to make a living haven’t they, but they’ve got nowhere to go. The winner will go on to do stuff, the loser, there is nowhere for him really. He will just end up as a stepping-stone for the up and coming.”
Joshua will go head-to-head with Whyte on August 12th at the O2 Arena in London, in an event that can be streamed live on DAZN PPV.
