Whilst some boxing beef seems manufactured, the animosity between two of the sport’s most exciting lightweights is most definitely real.
Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis have been on somewhat of a collision course, but unfortunately one with too many roundabouts and traffic jams. Whether it’s the promotional companies or the fighters getting in the way, the fight hasn’t been made despite it potentially being one of the biggest the sport has to offer.
Hope has recently been growing, though, as both men ramp up the back and forths once more and even call for the fight to be made next – and to add to that, it seems all the talking boiled over in the club recently.
Ryan Garcia took to Instagram live to talk about the encounter.
“I [saw] Tank in the club. He’s a tough guy. I went up to his table, me and this guy, and I said ‘Yo, are we gonna make this fight happen?’ And I guess he got offended by that, got all worked up … [I said] ‘ain’t no respect here?’ and he said ‘Nah, there ain’t no respect here.’”
“He grabbed my chain, but I wasn’t worried about it. There’s so many security guards there, I knew he wasn’t gonna take my chain or anything really, he just wanted to seem tough … Then he let go, well he had to let go.”
Finally, the unbeaten Garcia made sure ‘Tank’ knew that he would act differently inside the ropes.
“And then I said something to him. [He] knows what I said. I’m not going to repeat it on live. But just know, in the fight that’s where it really happens. Outside the ring you can act tough all you want, inside the ring it all changes. It definitely does. I’m not with the acting tough, I’m tough only when I need to be.”

It’s an event that only adds more intrigue to a fight that fans are begging for. The lightweight belts are currently tied up with Devin Haney, who has a rematch with George Kambosos Jr to get through. In the mean time the Garcia – Davis match up is there to be made if all involved can come to an agreement.
Going from this story alone, it’s pretty clear the pair have differences to settle and, as the old saying goes, why do it out here when you can get paid for it in the ring?
