Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has selected another promising British boxer as his new sparring partner. Fury is preparing for his highly anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, scheduled for December 21. This young boxer has previously trained with Fury, joining his camp before their first fight was postponed.
Joining Fury’s training camp now with an impeccable record of 10-0 and eight knockout wins is Moses Itauma, who already has remarkable experience at his young age. Itauma will face Demsey McKean on the undercard of the same night when Tyson Fury will seek victory over Oleksandr Usyk, the current unified champion.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Itauma stated that this sparring will benefit Fury due to the similarities between his style and that of the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, allowing Tyson Fury to prepare for a more demanding and tactical fight.
“It just compliments me,” Itauma mentioned. “I’m not going to go there just to help him. I want to gauge my ability off his ability.”
Despite his role in Tyson Fury’s training, Moses Itauma emphasized that his primary focus remains his own fight against Demsey McKean.
Itauma’s selection comes as no surprise, as he is considered one of the biggest teenage prospects in world boxing and a future heavyweight champion. The young boxer has previously trained with Tyson Fury, joining his camp before their first fight with Usyk was postponed.
Itauma recalls the experience as enriching, mentioning that he learned important lessons on patience in the ring. “I learned a lot, definitely. Outside the ring, maybe getting a balance in life; inside the ring, being a bit more patient, a bit calmer, not trying to kill everyone,” Itauma explained.
Itauma’s in-ring skills have become evident in his recent fights, especially in his victory over veteran Mariusz Wach, whom he knocked out in just two rounds. This impressive performance has drawn interest in his career, highlighting the power and precision of his punches.
Moses Itauma admitted that his style can intimidate his opponents: “That many people have pulled out of fights with me, and I don’t blame them. If I was in their shoes, I would pull out as well. I wouldn’t want to fight me either,” said Itauma.
His trainer, Ben Davison, also highlighted Itauma’s maturity and tactical ability, rare qualities in such a young boxer.
According to Davison, Itauma has an instinctive ability to adapt in the ring, which is essential in his progression toward a world championship. “He’s a very smart, intelligent fighter. He’s a thinking fighter. He’s able to recognize traps that better opponents are trying to set on him,” Davison said.
For Itauma, becoming a world champion is the only logical path to justify his dedication to boxing. “If I don’t want to be aiming to go there, what’s the point of me being in this boxing game? I’m not here to mess around,” Itauma declared.
Moses Itauma plans to showcase his skills in every match, including his upcoming bout with Demsey McKean. The boxer assured that a victory in this fight will accelerate his career and bring him closer to new challenges on a global level.
