Floyd Mayweather and his gym mates gave their opinions about the upcoming bout between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin on the official Mayweather Boxing Youtube channel. Agreeing with many other Mayweather gym fighters the consensus is a clear one: Canelo wins.
“With ‘Triple G’ and Canelo, I’m leaning towards Canelo. The other day I think they should have stopped the fight [Canelo vs Chavez Jr]. That’s just my opinion. That guy Chavez was off a year. He was basically a punching bag,” told Mayweather.
The 40-year old boxing great believes Canelo is still on his way towards his ultimate prime. Floyd’s current protege Gervonta Davis, who is fighting this weekend against Liam Walsh, also gave his opinion.
“I believe Canelo is going to win. I think Canelo has the skills. Triple G has got the power, but I think with Canelo’s power and skills, he can pull it off,” said ‘Tank’ on Mayweather Boxing Channel.
Even former world champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad sided with Canelo instead of Golovkin.
“I’m going with the redhead. He’s been learning on the job the fast few fights. He’s been shortening up his punches and he’s learning. That’s the whole key,” he said.
Mayweather is preparing Davis for a fight this week’s Saturday against the 30-year old Walsh with ‘Tank’ being the heavy favorite. Floyd’s team is also in deep talks with Conor McGregor and UFC President Dana White about the much talked about super fight. According to White a deal might be reached as soon as this week.
